When I was a teen, I was afforded the opportunity to sing under the direction of Fred Waring, the much-loved conductor of The Pennsylvanians. An entire generation of people sat spellbound under the musical genius of this man and I must admit that I was awestruck to be able to sing with him, too. One of the songs we sang was one I already knew from watchingThe Bugs Bunny Show as a child. Here are the words for your remembrance:
Overture, curtains, lights,
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing and nursing a part
We know every part by heart
Overture, curtains, lights
This is it, you’ll hit the heights
And oh what heights we’ll hit
On with the show this is it
Tonight what heights we’ll hit
On with the show this is it!
We singers loved this song as it expressed the excitement we felt getting ready to present our latest performance to the gathered assemblage. And it was fun, too!
In just a few days, we’ll be hitting the heights as it were and presenting our first Count Down Saturday event. This is a time for us to gather together to worship the Lord before those we’ve invited to share the experience and showcase our church, our music, and our people. This is the event we’ve been preparing for since July 10, 2011.
Have you invited a friend yet? There’s still time. Call them. Invite them in for supper. Give them the invitation you’ll receive today. It’s our chance to really do something to further the spiritual potential of those we love. I look forward to seeing you, too, on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at Vantage Pointe Church.
I leave you with the words of the immortal Bugs Bunny and apply them to our Count Down Saturday: “This is it!”
