Impossible: that’s the word you hear a person use when facing an overwhelming circumstance with seemingly no possibility of resolving it on their own. You’ve done it and so have I: we look inside ourselves for help, quickly measure the amount of energy or resilience we have on reserve, and unthinkingly declare, “This situation / person / hurdle / financial challenge /struggle is impossible to resolve!” Then, without skipping a beat, we stop our forward motion and give up.
Vantage Pointe is made up of people who refuse to look at the challenges associated with planting a new Wesleyan Church as something impossible but, instead, declare, “With God, all things are possible!”
We get our fixed resolve from a verse in the Bible that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It’s found in Matthew 17: 20-21 (NIRV):
“What I’m about to tell you is true. If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, it is enough. You can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there.’ And it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Vantage Pointers are people who have decided to become mountain movers for God. And that is no small commitment when you realize what we’re up against!
Adirondackers are people who live under the shadow of some of the most rugged and imposing peaks anywhere in the Northeast. We know the strength our mountains project and respect their certain dangers. Few people ever challenge these ranges because they fear loss of life or limb and are content to just read about mountain matters. But there are a few brave souls who have decided that gazing on mountains is uninspiring and boring and choose, instead, to take on these Adirondacks with a full frontal assault. They’re called “Forty-sixers” and they derive great satisfaction from scaling all forty-six mountain peaks in the Adirondack mountain range. Some call them reckless while others call them heros. I don’t know about you, but given the chance, I’d rather be numbered with the challengers than I would with those who’d rather play it safe!
At Vantage Pointe, we’re not playing it safe when it comes to telling our region about Jesus Christ and His incredible love for people. Though it’s costing us time, treasure, or energy, we’ve decided to be numbered with those who’ll scale imposing peaks rather than sit safely in the pew of sameness and derive nothing of value from the puny effort.
Is it scary? Sure. Costly? Yep. Impossible? Never! Because from this Vantage Pointe, anything is possible!
